Editorial Standards

These are the rules our newsroom works to, including where AI is involved and where it stops.

Sourcing and verification

Reported claims are traced to a primary source wherever one exists — a filing, a regulatory notice, a published dataset, a company statement, or a direct document. Third-party reporting is used to find stories, not as the final word on facts.

Every story that makes factual claims carries a verification record and, where appropriate, a public sources list. Dates, names, figures and quotations are checked against the source that produced them.

A claim we cannot verify is removed or held for editorial review. It does not ship with a hedge word attached.

What we never publish

We do not invent statistics, quotations, interviews, research findings, product testing results, legal developments or first-hand experiences. We do not present a press release as reporting.

We do not claim to have tested software we have not tested. A piece based on public information and vendor documentation is labeled a product overview or research-based comparison.

AI-assisted work

Apartment Agenda uses AI to research topics, draft stories and generate promotional copy. Drafts pass an automated verification step before they reach an editor.

Every AI-assisted story carries a disclosure naming the review it received: human-reviewed, or published under our automated review policy.

The following categories always require explicit human approval and are never auto-published: breaking news, legal disputes, regulatory changes, fair housing interpretation, allegations against named companies or individuals, sensitive employment allegations, and financial claims about named companies.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we correct it and note the correction on the story. Substantive corrections are dated. We do not quietly delete errors.

Separation from advertising

Advertisers have no input into independent reporting, and no advance sight of coverage. Sponsored content is labeled, visually distinct, and produced to the same factual standard as everything else.
